Editorial Standards

Small Houses Decor is independent. We are not a manufacturer, a contractor, or a reseller, and we do not accept paid placements, sponsored copy, or undisclosed gifts in exchange for coverage. The policies below describe how every article on this site is written and maintained.

Sourcing

  • Primary sources first. Manufacturer spec sheets, installation manuals, building code (IRC, IBC), permit fee schedules, BBB complaint files, Trustpilot review distributions, and contractor pricing surveys (HomeAdvisor, Angi, Fixr).
  • Brand and price citations. When we name a brand or quote a price, that brand and price was current on the publisher's site within 30 days of publication or last update.
  • Cost ranges. Stated as regional bands (low / typical / high) reflecting 2026 contractor data — not single national averages, which are misleading.

Fact-checking

Every article is reviewed against its sources before publication. Numerical claims (dimensions, costs, code requirements, amperage, BTU loads) are independently re-verified. Brand pricing is re-checked on each scheduled update.

Updates

Each article carries an "Updated" date. Substantive updates (changed price tier, new building code, discontinued product, corrected claim) reset that date. Minor copy edits do not.

Corrections

We correct errors quickly and conspicuously. To report an error, please use our Contact Us form and select a corrections-related subject. Substantive corrections are noted at the bottom of the affected article with the original claim, the corrected claim, and the date.
